Two days after Ronald Torreyes was designated for assignment, the Yankees announced the infielder has been traded to the Cubs in exchange for a player to be named later or cash.
The Yankees made the move to make room for newly acquired pitcher Parker Bridwell. The righty was claimed off waivers from the Angels to give the Yanks needed pitching depth.
Torreyes hit .281 with 29 doubles, four home runs and 55 RBI over 221 games over three seasons with the Yankees. The versatile backup played 20 games at second, 11 at third and 9 games at shortstop last season, but appeared in a career-low 41 games.
