Yankees drop fan favorite to make room for pitcher Parker Bridwell

November 27, 2018

The Toe-Night Show has been cancelled.

The Yankees designated fan favorite Ronald Torreyes for assignment, the team announced Monday, in order to make room for pitcher Parker Bridwell.

Bridwell, 27, was claimed off waivers from the Angels and struggled last season following a strong 2017 campaign.

The righty started just one game a year after going 10-3 as his ERA soared to 17.55 in five total appearances. Bridwell missed some time with a nagging elbow injury and was DFA’d last week.

Yankees brass has been focused on improving the pitching staff this offseason and Bridwell supplies the team with extra depth in that department.

Torreyes, whose dugout high-fives with the much-taller Aaron Judge were a dugout staple, suited up in just 41 games for the Yankees last season.

The 5-foot-8 backup could be counted on defensively and had a knack for producing at the plate when called upon. Torreyes, 26, slashed .281/.308/.374/.682 in 221 games over three seasons in the Bronx.
