It might be time for Brian Cashman to dust off his Rolodex and resume that Sonny Gray trade talk.
CC Sabathia has been cleared to begin working out, baseball activities included, the Yankees announced on Tuesday. The team said Sabathia took a follow-up stress test a month after undergoing angioplasty to clear a blockage in a coronary artery.
Cashman last week said that the veteran pitcher’s health condition had given the ball club second thoughts on dealing the underwhelming Gray.
“The CC circumstance certainly has given us pause because we want to make sure that we’re covered and protected, and that we’re not moving players that potentially could continue to impact us or be a choice for us or an alternative given the circumstances,” Cashman said. “The CC thing certainly when it developed, it slowed down my conversations because we had to see how this played out first. Once he has these followup appointments I’ll be in a much better position to fully engage moving forward on the Sonny Gray conversations we’ve had, or continue to slow-walk it while we make sure that CC is taken care of health-wise first and foremost.”
It remains to be seen whether this dose of positive Sabathia news springs Cashman into action.
