Yankees agree to 2-year deal with DJ LeMahieu: report

January 11, 2019

The Yankees have a new infielder. It’s not Manny Machado.

The Bombers are bringing DJ LeMahieu into the fold on a two-year deal worth between $22-24 million, ESPN is reporting.

A two-time All-Star with the Colorado Rockies, LeMahieu has spent all but 25 games of his big-league career at second base.

The 30-year-old former LSU star hit .276 last season with 15 home runs and 62 RBI. He won the NL batting title in 2016 with a .348 average playing his home games at hitter-friendly Coors Field.

For his career, LeMahieu has a .298 average with 49 homers and 349 RBI with a .756 OPS.

Adding LeMahieu — a three-time Gold Glove winner — is another sign the Yankees are out of the Machado sweepstakes.

The Yankees are reportedly eyeing LeMahieu as a do-it-all infielder who can play at first, second or third.

LeMahieu is the second former Rockies star to join up with the Bombers this offseason as the Yankees inked oft-injured veteran shortstop Troy Tulowitzki earlier this month.

Tulowitzki, who was cut loose by the Blue Jays, hasn’t played since the 2017 season. If he can prove he can stay healthy, Tulowitzki will start at shortstop for the Yankees while Didi Gregorius rehabs from Tommy John surgery.
