A Virginia man could face years in prison after a judge found him guilty last week of biting off and swallowing his grandfather’s index fingertip during an argument.

Aaron Michael Adams, 23, of Roanoke, was convicted at a bench trial Thursday of malicious wounding and aggravated malicious wounding, both felonies, for the December 2017 incident.

The victim told police Adams jumped him while they were having an argument, The Roanoke Times reported. When officers arrived that night, the grandpa had his left hand wrapped and his index finger was bleeding while the part “just above the first knuckle appeared to be missing,” an officer wrote in the police report, according to the newspaper.

The victim’s fingertip was never recovered.

Adams told the court he was defending himself.

He’s scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 30.
