Victim jumps from 6th-floor balcony to escape raging Bronx fire

At least one person was badly injured after leaping from a sixth-floor balcony to escape a raging Bronx apartment fire Wednesday night.

The blaze broke out just after 6 p.m. at a 17-story apartment high-rise on E. 169th St. at Third Ave. in Morrisania.

Sources familiar with the incident said a female occupant of the building jumped from the balcony and was rushed to Harlem Hospital, though her age wasn’t clear, and sources couldn’t immediately confirm early reports the jumper was a young child.

Video and photos from the scene showed firefighters using a ladder to fight the bright orange flames as a plume of black smoke billowed from the balcony, as people screamed in horror nearby.

In all, four people were injured in the blaze, one critically. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries.
