A gunman on the loose after shooting at cops upstate held up a Brooklyn smoke shop Monday morning and got away, police said.
Joshua Stuart robbed a 29-year-old clerk at gunpoint inside Mist Tobacco Shop on Third Ave. near 83rd St. in Bay Ridge about 8:30 a.m., cops said.
Stuart, 42, allegedly approached the clerk and waved a firearm in his face .
“He took $50 in singles,” the shaken clerk told the Daily News.
Stuart also stole a credit card before taking off in a grey Honda Pilot, according to cops.
State police say Stuart has a semi-automatic handgun and is “extremely dangerous.” The NYPD released a new surveillance photo of Stuart and his vehicle Monday taken during the Bay Ridge robbery.
News of his latest heist spread quickly.
“My daughter was in here alone,” said Jimmy Assam, 45, whose daughter opened his shop Jim Candy Store on the same block because he was running late.
Stuart early Friday fired a gun inside the Ellenville Regional Hospital after an incident with a patient there and drove off in a white Dodge Ram 1500, according to state police. He ditched the vehicle in Napanoch, where he fired up to five shots at officers before running off into nearby woods.
Stuart then headed to New York City and was last seen in Sunset Park and Flatbush, the NYPD said Sunday.
Witnesses described the robber Monday morning as 6-feet tall while state police said Stuart is 5-foot-8 but the NYPD believes the Bay Ridge robber is Stuart. He escaped after robbing the smoke shop and remains on the loose.
