Two teens charged in ‘unprovoked’ beating death of man at Maryland fair


Two teenagers were arrested over the weekend after a 59-year-old man was beaten to death at a Maryland fair.

The victim, who was identified Monday morning as John Weed from Mount Airy was found assaulted an unconscious Friday afternoon at the Great Frederick Fair, according to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was flown to the R. Cowley Adam’s Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore and died Saturday afternoon.

Two black teens, both unidentified, were identified after an investigation into the “unprovoked attack," according to police.

The 15-year-old teen was charged with first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment. The 16-year-old was charged with second-degree assault.

Officials said no weapon was used during the attack on the victim.

Additional charges are still possible for the teens.
