A man and a woman are facing murder charges in Ohio after a teen missing for three weeks was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head on Sunday.
Danny Hamby and Toni Kenney were already in custody at the Summit County Jail when they were hit with the more serious charges on Monday in connection with the fatal shooting of Samantha Guthrie.
The 18-year-old Guthrie was last seen on Nov. 4 at an Akron home and was reported missing the following day. The medical examiner’s office listed her death as a homicide on Monday, one day after her body was found by New Franklin police.
“We are forever grateful for all of the love and support through this devastating time,” Samantha’s loved ones wrote on the “Searching for SAM” Facebook page. “Family can finally start the grieving process and make plans for her memorial. Please donate and share to help this beautiful young lady finally be put to rest!”
A GoFundMe page has raised more than $2,500 for Samantha’s funeral.
Hamby, 39, and the 31-year-old Kenney had previously been arrested on charges related to the teen’s disappearance. Cops did not say whether the pair had known Guthrie, according to ABC News.
Hamby also faces multiple other charges, including parole violation, carrying concealed weapons and improperly handing firearms in a motor vehicle, according to ABC News. Kenney had been charged with tampering with evidence, carrying concealed weapons and obstructing justice.
