Within days, President Trump is expected to release a politically biased memo drafted by the House Intelligence Committee with one and only one purpose: to smear the FBI, diminish the Justice Department and muddy the waters of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian election interference.
Why? Because, for this President, nothing is more important than bloodying any and all who refuse to systematically downplay Russia’s meddling, the Trump team’s still-unknown cooperation with the Kremlin and attempts to prevent authorities from learning the truth.
Trump’s obsession has already triggered:
The gift-wrapped present from House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, withheld and set to be released in a transparent act of partisan kabuki theater, supposedly asserts that the FBI broke federal law by not disclosing that its request for a warrant to investigate the Trump campaign came from a dossier paid for by Democrats.
But Nunes reportedly drafted the memo without even reading the supporting documents from which the FBI actually launched its probe.
Despite a warning from the Justice Department that releasing the memo would be “extraordinarily reckless,” Nunes Monday got House leadership to support the move, with Speaker Paul Ryan chillingly proclaiming it time to “cleanse” the FBI.
As President Trump, in the wake of his State of the Union, preaches “unity” to the nation, he continues as he has for a year: trampling all norms, smearing good people and trashing institutions, all because he apparently lives in fear of the truth.
