A corporate jet traveling to Chicago crashed shortly after taking off from an Indiana airport late Friday morning, killing all three people on board, police said.
Authorities were first alerted to incident shortly before 11:30 a.m by residents living near Memphis, Ind., according to a press release from Indiana State Police. Officers with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office responded to a nearby wooded area, where they discovered flaming debris from the crash
The Clark County Airport, located in Sellersburg, confirmed a Cessna Citation departed for the Chicago Midway Airport around 11:24 a.m.
Three people, including the pilot, were on the plane when it spiraled downward just moments after take-off. Police said there were no survivors.
The National Transportation Safety Board said it would be investigating the cause of the crash along with the Federal Aviation Administration.
