A woman used her granddaughter’s scooter to defend herself from machete-wielding men in clown masks outside her Texas home.

Aretha Cardinal and Joseph Nelson were sitting in their Texas City home’s driveway on Feb. 1, when the wannabe robbers approached them, police said.

The couple was sitting in their truck when Luis Jimenez, 32, and Jose Lugo, 35, came up to the car window, put the machete up to Nelson’s throat, and demanded money.

“I’m sitting here talking to my wife and the next thing I know, when I look up, I see somebody running towards me with this white clown mask on and a machete,” Nelson told KTRK-TV.

Cardinal struck one of the men with the scooter she picked up from the driveway, as her husband pulled the machete away from the other man.

“Any weapon is good for me if I can get you off me and my husband, that’s what I’m going to do. I used the scooter, broke it in half,” Cardinal said.

Jimenez and Lugo — who fled on foot — were eventually captured and charged with aggravated robbery.

They were being held in Galveston County Jail on $100,000 bond.
