SZA revealed in a series of tweets that she has suffered permanent vocal-cord damage.
“My voice is permanently injured,” the singer wrote in the first of a series of Tuesday night tweets, which have since been deleted.
She referred to a “test” that seemingly proved to her — at least — that there may be irreversible damage to her voice, multiple outlets have reported.
“Tonight was the test,” she wrote. “That settles that. I jus wanna be left alone my priorities are f—ed up. They been f—ed up. I need space goodbye.”
The “All The Stars” singer, 27, previously announced in an Instagram post last week that she had to take time off of the Top Dawg Entertainment tour — on which she was performing in a lineup that featured Kendrick Lamar, among others — because of swollen vocal cords.
“For anyone who hasn’t seen this. I’ve been touring for 11 months. This didn’t happen overnight,” SZA shared with her fans last week. “Usually steroids and pushing through help. They don’t this time.”
Foreshadowing her emotionally-charged tweets, SZA continued in last week’s Instagram message that if she didn’t rest her voice then, she might have to “pause permanently.”
