A suspect was dead and another four remained at large Thursday after an early morning robbery at a Maryland gun store.

A Montgomery County Police officer responded to the United Gun Shop in Rockville after suspects triggered an alarm inside around 2:30 a.m. When law enforcement arrived in the parking lot, the suspects immediately rammed their stolen getaway vehicle into the police cruiser, according to authorities.

The officer was not injured and fired off several shots in the direction of the fleeing car.

The suspects’ vehicle only made it a few blocks from the scene before it broke down in front of the Loemann’s Shopping Center, Montgomery County Police Chief Marcus Jones told WUSA. Four suspects fled from the scene and the fifth was later found dead inside the car.

Jones confirmed the victim died from a gunshot wound. His death is currently under investigation.

Officers also found a bag with multiple firearms inside in a backyard near the crime scene, according to WTOP. They discovered three more guns outside the car the in which the suspects attempted to flee.

Authorities warned the remaining suspects could be armed and dangerous. Jones added it’s unclear whether they have stolen guns in their possession, but noted “these individuals came here armed and dangerous right from the beginning.”
