On your mark. Get set. COLLEGE!
Female New York City high school students who love to run are being offered a chance at a scholarship program this summer, New York Road Runners officials said.
Under the nonprofit running group’s NYRR Run for the Future program, 125 deserving NYC high school juniors to can land a $2,000 scholarship for college, plus seven weeks of free athletic training.
The program is designed for teens who are interested in running but are not yet experts.
Those who participate will be introduced to the sport of running and receive training from NYRR’s coaching staff over the summer months.
And at the end, they participate in their first 5K run – that’s roughly 3.1 miles to the uninitiated.
NYRR Senior Vice President of Youth and Community Services Rachel Pratt said Run for the Future can give students a start on healthy exercise habits in addition to a college boost.
“Run for the Future embodies the transformative power of running, and how the sport can help you grow not only as an athlete, but as a person,” explained.
