Some minor league baseball umpires have their very own retriever to bring them water.
Jake the Diamond Dog is a golden retriever trained to bring water to umpires. The pup recently made an appearance during a Fort Wayne TinCaps game, the Class A affiliate of the Padres.
The golden retriever is shown trotting around the field holding a basket full of water bottles in his mouth. Each umpire grabbed a bottle of water and gave the dog a pat on the head befire Jake was on his way.
Jake travels around the country and isn’t only found at TinCaps games. The dog, who even has its own website, is described as “the best darn dog in professional baseball,” and a “utility player that does it all.”
As Jake kept the umpires hydrated, the TinCups also found a way to send fans home happy after a 5-1 win over South Bend Monday.
