For many years Joe Mancino was the pizza savior of Roanoke, Va., where he moved from his native Brooklyn to make real New York-style pizza. But after 9/11, he says, he came home to his friends. Now he runs the 17-year-old Peppino's Brick Oven Pizza & Restaurant. Peppino means "little Joe," says Mancino, who started making pizza at age 12. "At one time I was little," he jokes, "not so much now."
