Rock-thrower shatters windows at four Bronx synagogues

A rock-throwing vandal in a green camo jacket shattered windows at four synagogues in the Bronx over the weekend, and police were investigating the incidents as possible hate crimes.

Surveillance video shows a suspect hurling rocks at the Young Israel of Riverdale Synagogue on Henry Hudson Parkway about 10:45 p.m. Saturday.

Police believe the same suspect is responsible for breaking windows at Conservative Synagogue Adath Israel of Riverdale on W. 250th St., Chabad Lubavitch of Riverdale on W. 246th St. and the Riverdale Jewish Center on Independence Ave.

The vandal also broke the windows of three parked vehicles on W. 239th St. near Henry Hudson Parkway, about a block and a half away from Young Israel of Riverdale Synagogue, police said.

“This brazen series of attacks on the Jewish community in #Riverdale over the past few nights is truly shocking,” tweeted Scott Richman, the New York and New Jersey director of the Anti-Defamation League. “We are in touch with law enforcement who is now out in force and is taking this extremely seriously.”
