Rob Gronkowski guffawed at a mid-season Daily News back page suggesting the Pats tight end’s career was over.
Turns out retirement may truly be in his future as Gronkowski is said to be considering hanging up the cleats, again, according to NFL.com.
“And some people close to him believe Gronkowski’s decision will go the other way,” the Sunday report reads ahead of the Pats-Chargers AFC divisional round clash.
Gronkowski, whom The Daily News’ Manish Mehta called a shell of his former self in November, leading to that contentious “Weekend at Gronkie’s” back page, suffered one of the worst seasons of his career.
The 29-year-old generational talent amassed just 47 catches for 682 yards and three touchdowns as defensive coordinators no longer need to shape their game plan around the oft-injured star.
Now it seems Bill Bellichick and Tom Brady (who will likely play forever) may not be able to prop him up much longer.
