Renowned wrestling champion Pedro Morales, the first triple crown winner in WWE history, has died at age 76.
The death, first announced on Facebook by former World Wrestling Federation (WWF) announcer Hugo Savinovich, will hit hard in his home turf of Puerto Rico, where he was much beloved. Savinovich did not give the cause of death, but Morales was known to be suffering from Parkinson’s disease in his later years.
Morales began wrestling professionally in 1959, according to CBS Sports, and was with the World Wide Wrestling Federation from 1970-75. His most famous bout came in February 1971, with his defeat of Ivan Koloff at Madison Square Garden, where he won WWWF heavyweight championship title.
