Real estate powerbroker and “Shark Tank” star Barbara Corcoran says her brother was found dead inside his Dominican Republic hotel room, the latest in a string of mysterious deaths of American tourists visiting the island.
Corcoran, 70, told TMZ that her brother John, 60, was found dead of a heart attack in April by a friend who was sharing the suite with him.
John Corcoran was a retired New Jersey roofing contractor. Corcoran said he was one her nine siblings. She told the website her brother had a big personality and was her “favorite brother.”
He was in the country on his yearly vacation, she said.
Corcoran said no autopsy has been done on her brother but she was told he suffered a heart attack.
Since June 2018, six American tourists have been found dead in the Dominican Republic. Two were found at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana, and four others are Bahia Principe resorts. Three were heart attacks with one from pulmonary edema.
It was unclear if Corcoran died at one of the same hotels where the six others were found dead.
There was no funeral, but a memorial service is planned soon, according to TMZ.
Dominican officials have called the deaths isolated, but they have hired a crisis management public relations firm to tamp down the bad publicity, the website said.
Teams of experts and inspectors from several international agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, have conducted tests at the Bahia Principe properties where some of U.S. tourists died.
Some of the tourists consumed a beverage from the room minibar before becoming suddenly ill, according to reports.
