Readers sound off on Jeffrey Epstein’s death

2019-08-13

Dead, but how and why? (AP)
Epstein conspiracy theories abound

Danbury, Conn.: There will be many, many conspiracy theories so I want to offer mine.

First, with all the potential billionaires possibly involved, there is no way Jeffrey Epstein was going to live to testify. A great deal of money can get most anything done.

Second, Bill Barr’s involvement assures that there is corruption and he has begun his protection of Donald Trump as well as making sure the big names involved get covered up.

Third, now that Trump is offering his version of misdirection, this guarantees that he is somehow involved.

Fourth, watch for pushback when the FBI starts asking for one of the many videotapes which should exist showing what happened in Epstein’s cell. Stonewalling can only mean coverup, which means an orchestrated conspiracy.

Fifth, no one has defined where Epstein got his money. He likely was not as wealthy as he appeared, rather he was funded by several of the billionaires who gave him money or had him buy the islands or homes or planes needed to continue his prostitution service supplying them with the young girls they needed.

Sixth, Epstein simply ran a roving house of prostitution with elaborate schemes to protect his wealthy clientele.

Ultimately there will be more bizarre stories which will be barely explainable. But at some point, there will be an ethical law enforcement agent who will cut through the schemes, coverups, misdirection and corruption to reveal all who were involved. Richard Glehan

Good news

Peters Township, Pa.: Although his suffering was nothing compared to the lasting pain and anguish he dealt to young, vulnerable girls, the self-inflicted death penalty of serial child rapist Jeffrey Epstein is a positive outcome. The myriad adolescents whom Epstein indelibly scarred will not now need to relive the horror they endured at his hands at a trial, and our justice system and taxpayers will not be burdened with having to pour millions of dollars into providing security, care, food, housing, and legal assistance. We know that Epstein could not and did not operate in a vacuum. Let us hope that we learn the identity of all of his accomplices and to what extent their actions served to shield a rich, powerful, and deviant man, perpetuating his ability to prey on the weak. Good riddance. Oren Spiegler

Got what he deserved

Woodside: I don’t see why anyone is upset. He was a pedophile. He had sex with kids. I think I said “good” when I heard he killed himself. Richard Tobiassen

Dead men don’t talk

Brooklyn: I can’t say I feel much sympathy for Jeffrey Epstein. Having said that, most of us would like to know how it was possible for him to (reportedly) hang himself? How did he get the materials to do this? Are the correction officers and the warden at the jail so stupid and incompetent as to let this happen? Something here does not ‘’meet the eye.’’ Epstein had powerful, high-profile ‘’friends’’ who might have been exposed had he lived. They would have greatly benefited by his ’’silence through death.’’ The whole thing stinks. Robert Polin

#ClintonBodyCount

South Hempstead, L.I.: Wonder where Bill Clinton was when Epstein supposedly committed suicide. Just curious. Michael Quane

Load of Trump

South Wellfleet, Mass.: President Trump retweeting the baseless conspiracy theory alleging the Clintons are connected to Jeffrey Epstein’s death is just another shovel-load of dung added to Trump’s manure pile of a presidency. Mike Rice

Blame game

Schenectady, N.Y.: So Trump is blaming the Clintons because Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide. I’m sure Obama and Rosie O’Donnell had a hand it that also. It’s reassuring to know we have a “stable genius” as our commander in chief. Ron Goodman

Job well done

Fairfield, Conn.: Sad to hear that Epstein took the coward’s way out. No closure for his victims. But at least the person watching him did his job — he watched as Epstein committed suicide. Edward Petitti

Shoulda, woulda, coulda

Manhattan: Whether or not a “Johnny Friendly” type ghost may have helped in Jeffrey Epstein’s demise should in no way influence finding out who was on his apparently long “Happy Ending” list. Still, the word “should” has not always started or stopped anything in the past. John F. Early

As the adage goes

Beverly Hills: Jeffrey Epstein is dead! I believe he thought he would be better off dead than being behind bars. I wonder how the traffic is down there? Plus, that saying is so right on. Money really doesn’t buy happiness, does it? Margo Kent

Nowhere is safe

Ridgefield Park, N.J.: Just a thought: Perhaps Ghislaine Maxwell would be well-advised not to rely on the British Royal Family, government or the current U.S. powers that were, or that are now, for refuge or protection. Just saying. Chris McLoughlin

Dirty business

Kew Gardens Hills: Re “Billionaire degenerate Jeffrey Epstein dies after hanging himself in cell” (Aug. 10): Epstein was a poster boy for two contemptible enterprises: sex trafficking and hedge funds. Both involve screwing people, but sex traffickers don’t take 2% of your assets and 20% of your profits. They don’t rip off taxpayers by exploiting the carried interest rate and they don’t call themselves “wealth creators.” Richard Reif

Blockbuster

Fall River, Mass.: Nice going, all you guards and officials at Manhattan Metropolitan Correctional Center. By enabling the death of Jeffrey Epstein, you’ve deprived the world of what would have been one of the biggest trials of this century. Charles Winokoor

Rumor mill

Locust Valley, L.I.: With Jeffrey Epstein’s suicide in a Manhattan jail, we may never know the truth of President Trump’s long rumored relationships back in the eighties with 13-year-old girls and young women, who he was probably calling “Ivanka,” with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell acting as his pimps. Keith Frances

Accountability

Manhattan: Dear DOJ and FBI: If you don’t arrest and jail everyone involved with Jeffrey-Epstein-gate, we, the entire planet, are going to turn on you dramatically, and demand you go to prison for enabling and protecting these powerful criminals. And yes, you have to jail the dirty prosecutors and dirty judges and dirty jailers and dirty cops who all helped Epstein continue for decades. Epstein is just another criminal. T’was the law enforcement officers who made him a super-monster. Epstein’s suicide made my year, even though it’s more likely he was “suicided.” We want real justice, DOJ and FBI. We are getting madder every day. Larkin Novak

Rejoice!

Brooklyn: One more piece of garbage off the street, no money on a long trial. Good. May you rot in hell! You waste of flesh, blood and bones. You made my day when they said you were dead. Jeffrey P. Smith
