Once again, the Daily News’ readers came through.
After The News published a story about inspiring teacher and Hometown Hero nominee Bijoun Eric Jordan’s plan to take underprivileged Brooklyn students on a dream trip to Japan, big-hearted readers donated thousands to his fund-raiser to pay for the trip.
Jordan, 36, an instructor at Frederick Douglass Academy VII in hardscrabble Brownsville, is taking 18 students on a once-in-a-lifetime tour of the Land of the Rising Sun in July, traveling from Tokyo to Okinawa.
Jordan, who has worked in city schools for 14 years, was about $4,000 short of a $58,570 goal to pay for the trip in an online fund-raiser as of June 16.
But after The News published his story that day, Jordan said he was flooded with donations from readers who wanted to help him take inner-city kids on an overseas trip.
And his “Brownsville to Japan” fund-raiser, which is still active here, had exceeded its goal as of Friday with $60,480 in donations from 1,269 people.
Jordan said he and his students are thrilled.
