How much money would have to be in the change return for you to reach in there? #subwaycreatures (@ranuchbk)

Keep the change, you filthy animal.

A video surfaced online Tuesday of a rat stuck inside the change dispenser of a subway MetroCard machine, struggling to escape a death by coin.

The rodent was discovered at the 23rd St. station on the No. 1 line — a video of it was shared by the Instagram account Subway Creatures and was viewed more than 325,000 times by Tuesday afternoon.

MTA sources were dumbfounded by how the rat maneuvered its way into the apparatus — one person who has worked for the agency for decades said they have never seen such a thing.

Transit officials are also skeptical that the rat made its way into the dispenser unassisted.

“This is very troubling and we’re looking into how it could’ve happened, including the possibility that someone may have planted it,” said MTA spokesman Andrei Berman. “This is clearly an anomaly.”

It’s unclear whether the rat could have made its way into the machine from underneath.

An MTA supervisor was sent to the station to investigate Tuesday afternoon, by which time the rat was nowhere to be found.
