Demolition workers at an Indiana high school discovered a purse containing photos, a prom invitation and other knickknacks from the 1950s — and the school has tracked down its now-82-year-old owner.
As a senior at Jefferson High School, Martha Everett (nee Ingham) lost her black stitched purse around 1954. The workers found it behind some cabinets in an old science classroom.
After posting about the missing purse on Facebook, the school district was able to rally the internet to help them track down Everett — and their plan worked.
“Lost and Found Alert: Martha Ina Ingham’s handbag from 1954 has been found in the Franklin Square demolition. We would love to return it to her or her family! Please contact Erin Bojorquez, Public Information Officer, at [email protected],” they wrote.
Everett, who decamped for Florida in the decades since, will soon receive her purse in the mail.
