A Pennsylvania boy is in critical condition after a freak accident just days after his 7th birthday, authorities said.
Wellington Shaffer fell into a trailer as corn was being shelled at the Northumberland County farm in Upper Mahanoy Township on Saturday, according to Hickory Corners Fire Company Chief Doug Wetzel.
The child was allegedly trapped by the kernels, and was finally rescued when the bottom of the trailer was popped open.
He remains at the Geisinger Medical Center in critical condition.
“This precious boy needs fervent prayer for healing through this heart breaking and long journey,” according to a GoFundMe page set up to help the first grader.
The fundraiser reached its $5,000 goal on Wednesday.
Nolan Masser, a close family friend of the Shaffers told WNEP, “We’re praying for a complete recovery for him, and we think that God will provide that.”
