Pedestrian struck and killed, driver ditches Jeep and flees

A 51-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a driver who ditched the vehicle nearby and ran off, police said Wednesday.

The victim was crossing Linden Blvd. at Barbey St. in East New York when he was hit by a 2015 Jeep Cherokee just before midnight Tuesday, police said.

The victim was rushed by EMTs to Brookdale University Hospital but could not be saved. His name was not immediately released.

The Jeep, which was heading west on Linden Blvd. when it struck the victim, was found abandoned less than a quarter mile away at Jerome Ave. and McClancy Place.

The driver is being sought.
