NYPD cop critically wounded, suspect killed in Bronx shootout


A gunman was killed and an NYPD officer critically wounded during a shootout at a Bronx public housing complex early Sunday, police sources said.

The gunfire erupted at the Edenwald Houses on 229th Drive North near Laconia Ave. about 12:30 a.m., just steps away from the 47th Precinct stationhouse in Edenwald.

The suspect was rushed to Montefiore Medical Center where he died, according to sources. His weapon was recovered at the scene, sources said.

The wounded officer was taken to Jacobi Medical Center with critical injuries, police said.

Police shut down the surrounding streets early Sunday as they investigated what sparked the gunfight.
