NYC Education Department names new tech chief

Anuraag Sharma (Linkden)

The city Education Department has a new head of technology, school officials said Tuesday.

Anuraag Sharma will be introduced as Chief Information Officer at a schools tech summit in Manhattan Wednesday, and he’ll start his post on August 12th.

“I am confident that Anuraag’s passion, knowledge and innovative thinking will help us continue to bring 21st — century technology to schools and classrooms citywide,” schools Chancellor Richard Carranza said.

Sharma, previously Chief Information Officer at the city Department of Design and Construction, will oversee the technology used by staff and students in the nation’s largest school system.

“Technology continues to play an increasingly critical role in our schools and society writ large, and our classrooms must be equipped with the modern-day tools and technology our students need to succeed,” Sharma said.

Sharma replaces Lauren Siciliano, who held the position on an interim basis.
