Nationwide total reaches at least 15 after first vape death reported in Nebraska

A vaping-related death in Nebraska was the first one reported in the Cornhusker State and brought the nationwide total to at least 15.

Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services did not identify the deceased but said they were over 65 years old.

The Centers for Disease Control has called on people to avoid vaping as over 800 cases of vaping-related lung injury and illness have been reported.

Those who have died and been reported as ill all had some symptoms that resembled a strain of pneumonia, including coughing, trouble breathing, chest pain, extreme fatigue, vomiting and diarrhea.

Many of the patients have required admittance to intensive care units and the use of respirators.

Several states have called for bans on flavored vaping products, or on vaping products altogether, as the public health crisis continues.
