A North Carolina man who turned himself in to police on a Washington D.C. street, claiming he’d killed a woman in his home state, has been charged with first degree murder and kidnapping, plus the misdemeanor of soliciting prostitution.

Jaron Allen Kubler, 29, had waived extradition and was brought from Washington to Forsyth, N.C. on Wednesday, then charged with the murder of Kayla Melissa Dubuque, 25, of North Wilkesboro. He told police he’d stabbed her to death in the bathroom of his apartment, according to Fox8 in North Carolina.

Kubler gave police permission to enter his home, and they found her body “with blood visible,” WJLA reported.

He was being held without bail on the murder charge and on $200,000 for the kidnapping and soliciting-prostitution, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office told the Winston-Salem Journal.

Once Kubler had confessed, Forsyth County Sheriff officers checked Kubler’s residence on Monday and found Dubuque’s body in the bathroom, Fox8 said. An autopsy and further details were pending.

Dubuque was survived by her father, stepmother and mother, as well as five brothers and a sister, according to her obituary. She was predeceased by another sister. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday.
