Officials are investigating the death of a woman and her young daughter after the two were found dead outside their cabin in Yukon, a remote territory in Northwest Canada.
The Yukon Coroner’s office says the body of Valerie Theoret, 37, and her 10-month-old daughter Adele Roesholt was discovered Monday by the women’s husband, according to CTV News.
“It appears they had been out for a walk when the incident occurred,” Chief Coroner Heather Jones said.
Her husband Gjermund Roesholt says he was approached by a grizzly bear outside the family’s cabin near Einarson Lake, officials say.
Roesholt was prompted to shoot and kill the bear about 300 feet from the cabin — soon after he found his wife and daughter dead outside.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the corner’s office will be conducting an investigation into the deaths of the two victims.
