Miley Cyrus to perform at 2019 VMAs after Liam Hemsworth split
Miley Cyrus is coming back to the MTV Video Music Awards, but hopefully she’ll leave her foam finger at home this time.
The 26-year-old singer will take the stage Monday night at the Prudential Center in Newark to perform her new song “Slide Away,” a single that seems to be a breakup song about husband Liam Hemsworth.
“Once upon a time it was made for us / Woke up one day, it had turned to dust / Baby, we were found, but now we’re lost / So it’s time to let it go," Cyrus sings in the main verse, posted online in mid-August.
Cyrus and Hemsworth, who were married in December 2018, split earlier this month after the “Hunger Games” actor filed for divorce, ciiting irreconcilable differences.
“Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward," he wrote on Instagram.
Days before the break up went public, Cyrus was photographed kissing Kaitlynn Carter, the 30-year-old “The Hills: New Beginnings” star who just split from Brody Jenner, while vacationing in Lake Como, Italy.
Monday’s performance will mark Cyrus’ third time on stage at the VMAs, most recently hosting in 2015.
But it was her 2013 rendition of “We Can’t Stop” and “Blurred Lines,” when she appeared in a latex bikini and provocative choreography that included a foam finger, that made headlines for months.
