Michigan worker dies after falling into tank of sulfuric acid

A man took a deadly plunge into a tank of sulfuric acid Saturday afternoon, in what his employer is calling a “serious industrial accident.”

The man, 54, remembered as a “valued” employee by the company, had fallen into a tank of the highly corrosive substance at Michigan Seamless Tube in South Lyon, Mich.

He succumbed to his injuries Saturday night at The University of Michigan Hospital.

”The Company is conducting a comprehensive investigation of the accident and is cooperating with the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration,” Michigan Seamless Tube said in a statement.

South Lyon Police Department is not investigating his death as a criminal matter.

“We, as a Department, would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and co-workers of the victim that was involved in the horrible accident at Michigan Seamless Tube this past Saturday. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time,” police said Monday.
