A 22-year-old Michigan man had his leg amputated after an accident at a carnival Saturday.

Nicholas Chapman was doing maintenance on the Fireball ride at the Curwood Festival in Owosso when he was injured, according to NBC25.

He was rushed to the hospital where his leg was amputated.

Owosso Police Chief Kevin Lenkart told Michigan Live that officials are considering it a “workplace accident," but declined to specify what exactly happened.

Chapman will undergo another surgery later this week, according to NBC25.

“I know this was not nothing intentional. It was truly an accident what happened; and right now, Nick just needs as much support and encouragement that he can get so it helps with his recovery,” his stepmother, Stephanie Chapman, told the station.
