Brodie Van Wagenen might as well have delivered the “?????Always be Closing” spiel instead of Alec Baldwin.
For the Glengarry mentality from the hit 1992 film seems to ring true in the Mets ticket sales office.
One Mets rep’s alleged attempt to get an Amazin’ fan back in Citi Field next season was shared to Twitter over the weekend.
“Chris— thanks for reaching back out! Help me understand why you renewed after the 2017 (70 win season) where we signed (Jay) Bruce, (Adrian) Gonzales and (Anthony) Swarzak,” the note begins, a clear shot at a trio of since-departed Mets players and Sandy Alderson. “And now after the 2018 season (77 win season) when we acquired the best 2B available [Robinson] (Cano), the best closer available [Jeurys] (Familia), and now one of the top 2 catchers available [Wilson] (Ramos)… This is a new-era with Brodie Van Wagenen in charge!”
It’s certainly a new era in Mets land with the bold Van Wagenen in charge.
Those aforementioned offseason moves even prompted the super-agent-turned-GM to mark his club the team to beat in the NL East, and while that may be a stretch, there’s certainly reason for optimism in Mets land.
Alas, someone has to pay the bills after an offseason of splurging.
