Man wanted for raping 12-year-old girl in the Bronx turns himself in to cops: sources

Cops say they're looking for a cigarette-puffing rapist who lured a 12-year-old girl off a Bronx street into his SUV and sexually assaulted her Friday night.

A man who lured a 12-year-old girl to his SUV and raped her showed her a fake police-type badge and claimed to be a member of law enforcement, cops said Thursday.

Carlos Medina, 51, surrendered at the 45th Precinct stationhouse Thursday. He faces charges of rape, predatory sexual assault, criminal impersonation, and other crimes.

The victim, who sources said is from Connecticut, was hanging out with friends on Elder Ave. in Soundview when the man approached her and convinced her to get in to his dark-colored SUV at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, cops said.

He drove the child to a motel in Pelham Bay, sexually assaulted her and then let her go, police said. She went back to Elder Ave. before going to a hospital.

Medina was awaiting arraignment Thursday in Bronx criminal court.
