A man was shot dead as he stopped to help an apparently intoxicated man sitting on a bench by a Bronx playground, police sources said Sunday.
Jason Rivera, 35, may have been followed by his killer as he walked along Taylor Ave. near Guerlain St. in Parkchester just after 11:40 p.m. Friday, police sources said.
Rivera, who lived on Staten Island, stopped to help a 43-year-old man sitting on a bench outside the Taylor Playground when the killer got out of a black Mercedes-Benz SUV and walked past him, sources said.
Surveillance video captured what happened next.
“You good? OK?” Rivera asked the disoriented man, and the shooter doubled back, then started shooting.
Rivera was hit in the head and chest. The shooter got back into his SUV and fled toward White Plains Road, cops said.
Medics took Rivera to Jacobi Hospital, but he couldn’t be saved.
The man seen in the video stayed on the scene, cops said. Police released the video and photos of the suspect, who was abut 5-foot-7 or 5-foot-8, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, tan pants and white-and-black sneakers.
Cops ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
