The Maine teacher whose body was found earlier in the week took her own life, the state medical examiner’s office said Sunday.
Kristin Westra was reported missing Monday by her husband, who said she’d disappeared during the night without her keys or her cellphone.
Her body was found on Friday in North Yarmouth.
“My heart was crushed today,” her husband Jay Westra wrote on Facebook.
Jay Westra said Kristin had experienced anxiety and was having trouble sleeping before she went missing. Kristin’s brother Eric Rohrbach told ABC News that when he woke up he “realized she wasn’t there.”
“The thought of her doing this to her family is completely out of the norm,” Rohrbach told ABC News.
Kristin Westra, who taught at an elementary school, was a “pillar in her community,” her brother told the network.
