Kristaps Porzingis takes subtle shot at Knicks amid milestone

March 14, 2019

Kristaps Porzingis is back on the court in full form.

Still reveling in the culture the Knicks never afforded him, Porzingis on Wednesday took part in his first full practice in over a year.

“I’ve been getting the itch to get back on the court,” a glowing Porzingis told TNT on Tuesday night. “And now that I’m actually with a team 100%, I just can’t wait. There’s a culture (in Dallas), you can feel that. Guys like Dirk, like JJ, they built that culture and they’re a really important part of this organization. Just seeing all those great personalities being in this organization, being part of this culture, just makes me want to be part of this.”

The Unicorn apparently couldn’t wait any longer.

“He had full practice, no issues. So it’s very encouraging,” Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle said of Porzingis on Wednesday. Porzingis hasn’t played since suffering a fateful ACL tear last February.

Sources previously told The News’ Stefan Bondy that Porzingis had been medically cleared to play, but feared how the Knicks would handle his continued rehab, and also wanted more time off as a way to prevent future injuries. So, it’s still unlikely he suits up for the lottery-bound Mavericks.

Off the court, Porzingis seems like a changed man, traveling with the his new team, and even leading huddles

“Categorically, he appears to me to be a leader which is something you can’t have enough of. All the signs point in a really great direction,” Carlisle told reporters when Dallas was in town earlier this month to take on Dallas.

That’s not the way team president Steve Mills described Porzingis’ final days as a Knick. He claimed the Latvian had become disengaged, and no longer was on board with the franchise’s plan… which now just seems to be banking on signing Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving with the extra cap they earned after dumping Porzingis, Tim Hardaway Jr., Courtney Lee and Trey Burke at the deadline.
