Joe Giudice is out of prison, but far from a free man.
“The Real Housewives of New Jersey” star is currently in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, pending immigration proceedings. The outcome will determine whether Giudice will be deported back to his native Italy.
“As standard practice, ICE, through its Criminal Alien Program works with the Bureau of Prisons to identify foreign-born nationals who are amenable to removal,” ICE officials confirmed to the Daily News.
“These aliens are placed in removal proceedings while serving their criminal sentences in order to reduce ICE detention costs and expedite removals once Bureau of Prisons transfers are completed,” ICE added.
A federal judge ruled on Oct. 10 that Giudice, 46, would be deported to Italy following his prison sentence. He is appealing that decision.
Giudice was born in the boot-shaped country and brought to the U.S. as a baby and never obtained American citizenship.
On Thursday, Giudice wrapped up his 41-month prison stay for fraud and tax evasion and would have been released if not for the deportation proceedings.
