Shawn Jefferson has officially hopped on the Sam Darnold Bandwagon.
The Jets wide receivers coach delivered an R-rated assessment of Gang Green’s young quarterback on the final day of OTAs that should make fans downright giddy.
“Excuse my French when I say this, but he’s a f–ing dude,” Jefferson said Thursday. “He’s a f—ing dude with a f—ing arm. And he’s accurate as sh–. So, excuse that. I’m just saying. If you haven’t been around a guy like that… It’s awesome to be around a guy like that.”
Jefferson, who played 13 seasons before spending the past 13 seasons as a coach, has seen his fair share of good signal callers. He believes the 22-year-old Darnold has the potential to be special based on everything he’s seen from the second-year player this offseason.
“It’s everything,” Jefferson said. “By the way he works. He’s here early in the morning. He stays after. He probably doesn’t leave this building until 6 or 7 at night. He and the whole quarterback room. So, I’ve been so impressed with this kid’s work ethic and the way that he attacks everything. It’s just been awesome to see a young kid like that.”
“It’s almost like he’s been here before,” the coach continued. “He’s a young guy, but he has a lot of veteran attributes to him as far as how he prepares and how he studies. Leadership. All those skills. So, I’m so excited for him going forward.”
Jefferson admitted that the players see the same things as he does in Darnold.
