The Season of Sam has run into a potential problem.
Three days after Sam Darnold’s worst performance of his young career, the Jets rookie quarterback didn’t practice Wednesday with a walking boot on right foot. Darnold watched practice in street clothes.
Sources told the News that he has a significant sprain and won’t play against the Bills on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
The Jets hope that he’ll be back after the Week 11 bye vs. the Patriots, but they’re not overly optimistic at this point.
Darnold admitted that he got dinged a little bit in Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins, but didn’t seem overly concerned when about about his health in a conference call with reporters on Monday.
“Yeah, I feel fine,” Darnold said. “Some bumps and some bruises, but everything is good.”
Todd Bowles said on a conference call Monday that he wasn’t aware of any injury to his starting signal caller.
Josh McCown obviously would start against the Bills on Sunday if Darnold is unavailable.
Darnold has experienced his fair share of growing pains in his first season. He’s thrown a league-high 14 interceptions through nine weeks.
