“Jersey Shore” star Ronnie Ortiz-Magro recently received treatment for depression and alcohol abuse.
The reality star spent roughly a month at the Headwaters facility in West Palm Beach, Fla., and checked out last Friday, he told Us Weekly.
“I decided to go to treatment because I wanted to be a better person, a better father for my daughter,” Ortiz-Magro told the magazine. “Eventually, all the bad decisions I was making were going to lead me to places that I didn’t want to be.”
Ortiz-Magro, 33, is the father to a 10-month-old daughter, Ariana, with fellow reality star Jen Harley.
He told the magazine that he turned to alcohol to combat depression, and wasn’t addressing the issue the right way.
“I was very depressed,” he said. “Very angry. Resentful to myself about a lot of things I’ve done over the last year, or even years. … I’m proud of stuff, but I’m not proud of a lot of stuff. I was definitely in a place where I just didn’t know how to control my life anymore.”
The TV personality added that he’s “still struggling” from what he described as a “chronic” and “progressive” disease.
He made the trip to the treatment facility in an effort to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
