Is Giants coach Pat Shurmur on the hot seat? Bet on it

There seems to be no love for the Giants head coach Pat Shurmur.

The 54-year-old was listed as the second most-likely NFL coach to be fired first this season, at least according to

It’s worth noting Shurmur opened as a 7/1 pick and fans readily moved the Giants coach to 5/1.

“The betting public generally follows what the talking heads are preaching, and the media hasn’t been shy prognosticating the poor expectations of the Giants going into this season," Adam Burns, head linesman at said in an email to the Daily News on Tuesday. "Gamblers are betting the ‘under’ for the Giants season win total of 6, and they were quick to bet on Shurmur being the first coach fired. We figured he would be a popular bet so we opened him at 7/1, the second-lowest odds, but apparently it wasn’t low enough.”

Shurmur is entering his second season in charge of Big Blue.

Shurmur’s so called “improved” Giants finished last (5-11) in the NFC East last season, just two wins better than the version of the team that got Ben McAdoo and GM Jerry Reese fired.

And expectations aren’t great — at least among the betting public — for the Giants to make much noise this season with a 38-year-old Eli Manning at the helm.

But at least Shurmur doesn’t have to deal with the daily drama he faced last year with Odell Beckham Jr.

Only Washington’s Jay Gruden (3/1) is considered a better candidate for first coach canned.

Also high on the list are Jaguars’ Doug Marrone (10/1) and the Texans’ Bill O’Brien and Falcon’s Dan Quinn at 12/1. New Jets coach Adam Gase is a 25/1 shot to get an early boot.

The odds no coach gets fired are 10/1.
