‘Sesame Street’ gets its due as postal service honors the classic show with new stamp collection (USPS)

“Sesame Street” is getting its due when the United States Postal Service releases a new series of stamps featuring 16 of the show’s beloved and iconic characters — a bright spot in an otherwise dark and dreary week.

The stamps, which are meant to celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary, were all designed by art director Derry Noyes, and will include Big Bird, Elmo, Ernie, Bert, Cookie Monster and Oscar the Grouch, among others.

A press release by the USPS praised the show’s influence, saying, “For the last 50 years, it has provided educational programming and entertainment for generations of children throughout the country and around the world.”

The “Sesame Street” gang isn’t the only one to get some love from the USPS, which also teased its upcoming release of stamps dedicated to dinosaurs, in particular, the Tyrannosaurus rex, as well as Spooky Silhouettes in honor of Halloween.

The USPS did not announce release dates for these stamp sets but assured they’ll drop over the course of 2019.
