A homeless ex-con is facing manslaughter charges for fatally striking an older man with an ice pick during a bloody fight in Brooklyn, officials said Saturday.
Members of the NYPD’s Warrant Squad grabbed Antonio Graham, 50, Friday night for the gruesome Tuesday attack on Gary Smith, 60, outside a Schenectady Ave. home near St. John’s Place in Crown Heights, officials said.
Smith was found slumped over on the front steps of the home with injuries to his head and face about 4:40 a.m., Tuesday, cops said. Medics rushed him to Kings County Hospital but he could not be saved.
With the help of witnesses and video surveillance, cops were able to quickly identify Graham as the attacker, although it was not immediately disclosed if the two men knew each other.
During the fight, Graham hit Smith with an ice pick, sources with knowledge of the case said. Smith lived about four blocks from where he was attacked.
Investigators charged Graham with manslaughter, assault and weapons possession. He has an extensive criminal history with 44 arrests for robbery, burglary and assault, officials said.
