A Florida mayor’s Twitter account was hacked early Thursday by someone who made threats against a local airport and posted racist and pornographic images.

In addition to the offensive tweets that included references to the N-word, the hijacker of Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn’s account wrote that he had planted a bomb at Tampa International Airport and was “looking forward to seeing some minorities die.” The airport said the threat was not credible but has taken “appropriate action.”

The account remained active hours after the hack. The mayor’s username had been charged to “Bob Cuckhorn,” and the assailant wrote “my name is Gunner Levy” on the account.

The assailant made dozens of tasteless tweets, and even retweeted local TV stations who covered the story.

Ashley Bauman, the communications director for Buckhorn, said in a statement that the city is working with police to determine who made “these reprehensible tweets.”

“We urge residents to change their passwords and continue to alert officials when they see an unlikely change in account activity,” she said. “We are working with law enforcement to investigate all threats made by this hack.”
