Grocery store shames customers who don’t bring their own bags

The bags are free, but they’re not complimentary.

An environmentally woke Canadian market is printing humiliating fake store names on their plastic bags as a way of shaming customers into bringing their own carriers to the store.

Vancouver’s East West Market has started reluctantly providing less eco-friendly consumers with take-out bags that appear to be from kinky video stores like “Into the Weird Video Adult Emporium” and medical facilities like “the Colon Care Co-op” that most people would rather not advertise. There’s also a bag that gives the impression it contains goods from “Dr. Toew’s Wart Ointment Wholesale” market.

The store’s Facebook page advertises the bags — or more accurately warns customers of them — with video that claims over a million plastic bags are dispensed worldwide every minute and most of those sacks are used just once.

“Avoid the shame. Bring a reusable bag,” East West Market advises on Facebook.

American consumers go through 100 billion plastic bags annually, according to They report that 100,000 marine mammals are killed by plastic bags every year.
