Giants draft bust gets chance with rival

March 19, 2019

Giants revenge finds company.

Big Blue draft bust Ereck Flowers reached a one-year, $4 million deal with Washington on Monday, according to ESPN. The lineman will reunite with star safety Landon Collins, whom the Giants curiously let walk earlier this offseason.

Flowers, the ninth overall pick in the 2015 draft, was a holdover from the Jerry Reese regime — which these days, seems more distant than the franchise’s last title.

The 24-year-old suited up in 51 games mostly at left tackle for the Giants, starting three, but never developed into a formidable Eli Manning protector.

GM Dave Gettleman cut Flowers last season with the team off to an ugly start, and he ended up in Jacksonville. There, he started seven games.

“I expected it [the release], it wasn’t a shock to me,” Flowers told reporters after signing with the Jaguars. “I actually was looking forward to another opportunity. To go from that situation to getting a chance a play here and [possibly] get into the playoffs that would be 100 percent perfect. That would be like ‘wow.’”

Now he’s found his next opportunity.
